Aurora Borealis in Northern Luxembourg

night phtography, perfect moments, Photo of the day, Photography

Aurora Borealis, also called Northern Lights are hardly visible on continental Europe. They mostly occur in the high latitude regions. I was keen on getting out with my camera tonight as one of these amazing phenomena was forecasted as far down “south” as Luxembourg. I must admit that I wasn’t really optimistic but as it was a beautiful starry night I could at least get some decent night shots. I pointed my camera North and took a couple of images. I could see some strange violet lights on my LCD screen but wasn’t sure about what it really was. It was only back home on my computer that I realised that I had witnessed one of the most amazing and strange phenomena !

Watch for yourself!

My Home Sky

perfect moments, Photography

I spent the late evening outside to experience star-trail photography. This shot is composed of 70 frames each of 30 seconds exposure. All photos were taken with a SIGMA 17-70mm at 17mm at ISO 800 and with an aperture of 2,8.

I’m still in my trail and error mode but enjoy it a lot. I played with the white balance to create different moods. What’s your preference?

Here a short time-lapse of the 70 images on vimeo  🙂
