Photo of the Day – June 13

I never heard anything about nudibranchs before I took a dive course. And even then, I knew they exist but it took me quite a time to spot one by myself. From this moment on, I got addicted to these strange creatures. Do you know that as they feed on poisonous stuff, they keep the poison to protect themselves? This specimen is feeding. There are so many things still to be discovered in our seas and it scares me to know that some of them would dissappear even before being discovered. I just hope that our kids can experience the underwater realms in “real” and not only as these girls on a canvas in a museum…

Seahorse beauty

I love seahorses. I’m amazed to see how they behave, move around and hide from us divers. In Lembeh we were lucky enough to see some on almost every dive, from pygmy seahorses to the thorny ones like this specimen. Do you know that the males are  carrying the babies.

Underwater Beauty (Similan Islands, Thailand)

Diving the Similans is always a new experience. The underwater rock formations are stunning. In some places you can harldy see the reef as it is covered in glassfish. The first time we dived here was in 2001 with only 24 logged dives. Last November we spent another week on the “Flying carpet” the liveaboard boat  run by Aladdin Dive, Ko Chang.
Mantas and whalesharks are often seen. We were lucky enough to seen them.

Photo of the Day – June 7 : Sunset over Komodo Island (Indonesia)

all rights reserved Mona&Chris 2007

Three years ago we spent 2 months travelling through Indonesia. One of the many highlights was the small fishing village Labuan Bajo on the western tip of Flores Island. From there you have spectacular sunset views over the Komodo National Park. Diving in this region is rewarding if you love strong currents. Topside you get the unique chance to spot one of the 4000 remaining Komodo dragons. Right now we are planning our next dive trip to Komodo in November 2007. The divers amongst you are warmly welcome to join.

In the World of Conan Doyle

One of our first oversea travels brought us to Venezuela. A fascinating country! We took a trip to the Salto Angel, the highest waterfall in the world, almost 1000 m high. I quickly find out that the journey to the waterfall was a highlight in itself. I will never forget the longboat running through the jungle, the green lush forests and the “tepui”, the table mountains around catching the clouds.Canaima

Photo of the Day – June 5 : The perfect start !

Hi everybody,

while we’re not on the road we want to share some special past moments with you. Every day you’ll get the pic of the day with a few words.

THE PERFECT START

My very first post shows a perfect morning around the island of Bunaken within the National Park off the Northern coast of Sulawesi (Indonesia). We left for diving and passed the island village with the imposant Manado Tua volcano in the backround.Clear warm waters, blue skys, just enough clouds to make the painting more interesting
